The city authorities of the Sao Paulo state came together to implement a light rail system project costing 1.06 billion US dollars and they have schedule to sign an agreement in the month of May. The date for the tender and building work would be disclosed after the signing of this agreement. This rail which is an electrically powered engine that runs on tires is named as Expreso Tiradentes. This rail will run between Vila Prudente and Cidade Tiradentes which are about twenty two kilometer long. By the year 2010 the first phase of the work stretching around 12.8 km will be completed between Vila Prudente and São Mateus.
